Cold and Heat

deutsch

It has been three years now since i am living in Austria and i remember that things didn’t went easy for me at the beginning.

First of all i arrived in the winter and i really had difficulties to manage with the cold. But through time i got used to the cold winters! I just remember one day it was extremely cold, one man came to me and asked me if i was feeling cold. As i answered that i did he told me that i would better go back to Africa! I just found his answer stupid. Something which is very curious is that a white man will be very surprised to hear that i feel hot when it’s hot, just because i am from Africa. If we Africains shouldn’t feel the heat, why do Europeans feel cold during winter? In my place, temperatures never go up 33 degrees! This may explain the reason why i feel unconfortable if temperatures rise in the summer like for example during last summer when temperatures went up to 38 degrees!

The second difficulty i had to face in Austria was to integrate myself to the new society. Not only did i have to deal with the fact that it was a really different world to me but above all i couldn’t say a word in German. I was feeling somehow lost, because i couldn’t understand a word of what people were saying around me! I think that the language is a very important skill for everyone living in a foreign country. Therefore, i started to learn German as much and as fast as i only could.
